It is the year 1995
and the Historic Security Council is dealing with the aftermath of the Bosnian
War, a conflict that happened because Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Croats wanted
to annex Bosnian territories for their respective countries. Serbian leader
Slobodan Milosevic, pushing for a “Greater Serbia”
threatened to hurt
Bosnian integrity by forming an army large and strong enough to make an
annexation possible. The committee is trying to find a solution that will free
Sarajevo, determine who is responsible for the war, end the war and return life
to normal.
Not an easy task.
Continuing, half an hour into the committee, the French delegation,(an experienced Indian duo from the Cathedral School), decided to abduct the Serbian leader Milosevic. Amid protests from the other countries inside the committee, the French delegation expertly stuck to their stance, referring to other incidences of kidnapping leaders in the past and managing to steer the committee in the direction of discussing solutions rather than debating about the moral rightness of their action.
The delegates continued to propose viable solutions to solve the crisis after formal session was resumed and debates about how to reinstate peace and implement solutions to resolve the Bosnian wars filled the committee. However, a few countries were not willing to take responsibilities.
The committee was
very determined to reach towards a conclusion and come up with
“magical solutions”
as said by the
delegate of Serbia. With everyone following the motto “
peace and
prosperity before everything “ the committee, which had started off as
all delegates accusing each other ended with delegates negotiating with one
another .
Some of the proposed solutions
included dividing Bosnia, stopping all future attacks, signing peace treaties,
etc.
While most delegates were fully
invested into making the debate fruitful, a few were yet to contribute. Much
kudos to the delegates of France, Russia, USA, UK, Bosnia and Tanzania for
contributing towards making the debate heated and the committee as a whole
successful so far.
